Office 2010: cannot verify the license for this product

Due to continuous Access errors, I decided to reinstall Office Professional 2010 (64 bit).

As I couldn’t find the original CD key I installed it with, I used another one from another installation. So far so good, installation went fine, etc.

Once I started any Office app, it popped up this error: “Microsoft Office professional plus 2010 cannot verify the license. blablabla useless crap check control panel”

I’ve tried:

  • Reenter CD key (via setup)
  • Repair Office
  • Install every single item I could select during the install
  • Remove office + reinstall office
  • Removed CD key with this
  • Reboot over a zillion times
  • Cursed

None of this worked.

However, this seems to fix it for me:

  1. Open command
  2. cd C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14
  3. cscript ospp.vbs /act
  4. reopen any Office. No more errors. Yay

Worked for me – thank you for posting. Also, since I was using the 32 bit version of Office 2010 I had to go into C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office 14\ to run the script.

hi guys, i went to “C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14” but i cant find “cscript ospp.vbs /act”, which i need to fix the problem, thanks

What a legend! I have been dealing with this s**t at work for the longest time when rebuilding workstations from images. Your solution worked for me. Cheers mate.

Thanks so much, this worked PERFECTLY on two systems I just had this occur with. I posted a summary to a Microsoft forum which had a long thread but nowhere, mentioned such a simple fix

I am using the Windows 2008 server and I am having issue with office pro plus 2012 as follows.

” Office pro plus 2010 can not verify the license for this product. You should repair the office program by using control panel”

I did the repair as mention above but still same issue.

Thank you! Wish I’d come across this 3 hours ago! In my case ospp.vbs was in program files (x86) and I had to include the path to cscript (c:\windows\system32). After figuring that out it worked beautifully!

I am getting error as below

ERROR DESCRIPTION: The Activation server determined the specified product key has been blocked.

excellent fix.. worked right away.. had been looking for 2 hours.. thank you so much for posting this… you DO rock!!!

Thank you! This helped perfectly. Remember for those to add (x86) if you have the 32bit Office installed there. Official support couldn’t help shit, yet some random post here did.

wow i was scared to run this because who knows whose page this is and what nefarious things they could have in mind…but i was so desperate I gave it a shot. It worked!!! Thank You!!!

Scared to reboot now though…fingers crossed
